In the first Agendapunten post I mention that I would like to create a series of queer activism posters that I can clatter around the internet and city of Rotterdam. I wanted to break away from the ‘CAN’T WAIT TO BE MYSELF’ design, because I want to play and not limit myself in such an early stage of the process.

HipSick, a Rotterdam based performative theatre collective, will release a new show called DIGITAL DUCTTAPE.
“My phone is like a blank slate. It is taped into my existence. When I see my reflection on the screen, I forget who I am. I decide who I am. I am a himbo. we need more HIMBO’S. ONLY CARING ABOUT YOURSELF LOOKING PRETTY FEELING PRETTY BEING FAKE AND NAIVE AND NOT TOO MUCH IN YOUR HEAD. BEING A HIMBO IS A MEDITATION. ONLY ME-TIME FROM NOW ON. JUST WORKING OUT, GAINING SOME MUSCLES, SELLING OUR BODIES TO THE INTERNET. BEING A HIMBO IS THE FUTURE. I AM READY FOR MY CLOSE-UP. PLEASE PHOTOGRAPH ME IN THIS SWEATY MESS”

Club Monk – a boulder club that is stationed in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Eindhoven – asked us to design a poster for their ‘club sessies’. These events are a laid back oppertunity to boulder with friends and socialize with some beers after.
We talked about the vibes of the poster, and Niels directed me towards two fonts that I could use. So this sketching process was more focused on composition. He came up with the idea to make the entire design black, so that it could be printed onto colored paper. Preferably on bright yellow pages, creating a modern eye-catching effect – paying homage to flyer culture.

As a response to the upcoming regional elections the Nieuwe Bossche School will host a poster event that allows artists and designers to communicate a political theme/issue that is important to them. Niels gave me the opportunity to pick my own subject of interest. I wanted to make a statement about the (lack of) Dutch transgender-care. The current system is inhumane because people who need urgent assistance have to wait for long periods of time until they receive the help they need. This is a big issue because you should not have to wait in order to get medical or psychological assistance. These are human rights. Besides that, people deserve to feel and be seen. Not to be put in such vulnerable positions.
