The Rotterdam municipality will place 12 woorden benches in Delftsestraat, which is a small artsy block with several artworks and places like burgertrut, biergarten en annabel. In order to blend in, the benches will be a canvas for multiple designers and artists. Niels was asked to create a design for one of the benches. We were rather limited in our abilities, because the technique used to engrave the wood is a CNC mill that can only draw in lines.

Because the poster design for ‘Algemene beschouwingen’ was about transgender care, me and Niels discussed this subject quite a bit. Gender and inclusivity is something that I am passionate about and interested in, but I don’t often incorporate these themes in my work (beside the poster I made earlier of course).
Club Monk, a Dutch boulder gym asked us to think about how they could be more gender inclusive/affirming, especially regarding their restrooms and competition forms. This was really exciting because we got to discuss what is important and what communicates, to not only focus on design but on its (ethical) content as well.
